Bus Design Competition

I won a design competition for the launch of an environmentally friendly bus. The brief asked for a design that would encourage car users to use public transport, walk or cycle instead of driving. The judges said my design was exactly what they were looking for and it was printed on the bus (along with my name) and travelled around Southampton for 2 years.

Left School
I passed all of GCSE's and obtained A* in art.

College

I started Barton Peveril College and studied A-Level Art, Graphic Design and Photography. Naturally the subjects combined together, which is why my graphic design can be quite illustrative, my painting style features elements of graphic design and is influenced by my photographs.

At college I became an experienced user of 35mm film photography and black and white darkroom processes. As well as understanding technical aspects of photography, I gained and understanding of the art of photography - lighting, composition and subject matter.

Photography Project in Estonia
Funded by the Youth Service, four countries (Estonia, Italy, Hungary and the UK) united in Estonia for a 10 day music event 'WAM' (World Around Music). Each country was represented by a rock band, a photographer and 2 youth workers. The event included music concerts for the bands, a celebration of diverse cultures, photography exhibitions and working alongside disabled Estonian young people.

As a member of the Music & Art group at a youth centre, I was invited to Estonia to be the  photographer for the UK. Subdued were the band that represented the music from the UK.

Art and Design Foundation Studies

I started an Art and Design Foundation course at the University of Southampton. During the course I specialised in graphic design.

My First Painting Commission
- Jake
'I am delighted to be able to write in support of Hayley. I first saw her work when she was a student at Woolston Secondary School, where I am Deputy Head teacher. The Head of Art chose Hayley's work to bring to a line management meeting to discuss the impact of individual interventions on students' attainment. Hayley's work was superb and the strong images she produces stayed in my mind.

When I was later in a position to commission a portrait of my son I researched widely to indentify an appropriate artist. Despite researching carefully I could not find quite the right person. I remembered the quality of Hayley's portrait work and chose her.

The portrait Hayley produced is stunning and a real reflection of the character of the subject. The technical detail supports the likeness so well and the picture has been admired by a wide audience. It has exceeded my expectations.

Hayley's reflective, empathetic character and determination when taking quite a risky commission really ensured a superb result'.

Mosh Pit Designs

A university brief asked for identity design for a fictional graphic design company. As a group, we created Mosh Pit Designs. I then developed it into my own business where I aimed it at bands and music artists. I advertised on MySpace and was commissioned to design a logo for American band 'GrimArt'. After a while, I discontinued Mosh Pit Designs to develop myself as a freelance designer and illustrator.

B Fit Website Design
I designed personal trainer Brian Morgan's website.

"Hayley's web design for me was excellent with the whole project running smooth from start to finish. I asked if the site could be designed and up and running within 3 days so Hayley worked very hard to accomplish the final results. I was asked at every stage what my thoughts were during the process to make sure every detail was covered. Very professional. Thank you very much".
